# 7 - Smooth As A Baby’s Butt

July 1, 2008 – 9:27 am
Like many of those who, for whatever reason, do not live with small children of the diaper age, when single I often imagined babies bottoms to be smooth, soft, and kissable at any time of day or night.    As many of my friends grew up, married, and began to have babies, I learned quickly that I was wrong – and heard often a common lament within their kid-friendly circles: all were on the hunt for the perfect butt cream, to soothe their little ones' pimply, inflamed behinds.  "Why so pimply and inflamed?" I thought, and received the myriad of answers: allergies, sensitivities, plastic diapers, chafing...  And so of course, when my turn came to grow up, marry and begin to have babies, I felt certain that my child would never have need of a soothe for a pimply, inflamed behind.  Not ever, since my child would be swathed in cotton, ...

# 6 - No One Likes A Bad Beard

June 15, 2008 – 9:25 am
I love me a scruffy man, but when the going gets tough that beard seems to get tougher!  It seems to me that men, when stressed, tend to shave less and need kisses more – leaving us thin-skinned ladies with some serious scruff rash! Rather than take blade into my own hands, I thought I’d find a great way to get my man to relax and pamper himself (close shave included) – stroking two birds with one stone (so to speak).     Thanks to The Gentlemen’s Refinery www.thegr.com, I found the most smooth-face-inducing green grooming products, based entirely on natural plant extracts, soothing ingredients and essential oils!  As it lists on their website: “The Gentlemens Refinery combines traditional luxury with a deep respect for both personal and environmental health in an expanding range of products that make shaving and grooming a sensual pleasure for both body and spirit.”   And how! I decided to ...

#5 - Put Your Best Foot Forward

June 2, 2008 – 12:29 am
My man likes feet.  Only mine of course - and anyway and anytime.  He loves to rub them, touch them, look at them… and as an ex-dancer, that means I have to keep them in tip-top shape! So I slough, I scrub, I paint nail after nail after nail…  and until now, I could not keep the skin on my feet soft and smooth!  Unfortunately, chemical-free creams and lotions contain propolyne glycol, used to give a slippery feeling to the surface it is applied on – creating a longer feeling of softness.  We know that this is a sham, since long-term use of a product with said ingredient can actually make dryness worse! That said, until now the organic creams and lotions I was purchasing worked wonderfully – for about an hour, after which I’d need to re-apply. And re-apply.  And re-apply.  Obsessive compulsive I don’t have time to be. Enter Gilden ...

#4 - Set The Bar

May 15, 2008 – 8:59 am
I love a good soap up. I love the foam, the suds, the bubbles... I really love a rub a dub dub, alone in my tub (when I have time!). But I seriously almost stopped washing myself when I learned what most conventional soaps are made out of. They say that like attracts like, and the main chemistry behind soap is that it attracts oil (fat), and is therefore made out of oil. In most conventional cases, this ingredient will be listed as sodium tallowate and what is that, my friends? Animal fat. Or more specifically, most often beef fat. Consumers choosing to purchase and use conventional bar soap on their bodies, hands, faces, babies etc. are rubbing themselves clean with, yes, beef fat. All together now: EW. Not only is it really gross, this ingredient can clog pores, and lead to breakouts. And did I mention that it’s really gross? But fear ...

#3 - An Eye For An Eye Cream

May 1, 2008 – 10:03 pm
I want instant gratification, and I want it now. When I buy an eye cream, it better do what it says it’s going to do – most don’t – and fast. Is it to much to ask that an eye cream deliver exactly what I dream of: a smooth, crinkle-free surface, a reduction in crows feet, and the complete absence of under-eye circles? Oh, how so often I have been disappointed! The lotion is always too thick or oily, without fail lying on my skin like a fat cat in the sun (lazy, hot and totally unmoving), and ending up being a: Complete. Waste. Of. Time. And. Money. And then I met you: Eminence Organic Herbal Eye Contour Cream. A star product within the Hangarian-based brand Eminence Organics, this eye cream has given new meaning to the phrase "pack your bags, we’re leaving!". How do I love thee, beloved eye cream? Let ...

#2 - Now Smell This

April 14, 2008 – 8:36 am
I have been getting a lot of looks today - hello, rubber-neckers! - and I'm sure it has everything to do with my fabulously new organic, synthetic-free perfume. Either that, or it's my stunning beauty and my sparkling conversational style. Although I am really, pretty, very sure that it's my new chemical-free fragrance. What do I mean by chemical-free? Well, in the Western world during World War II, the coal tar industry created so much chemical by-product that manufacturers began to sell it off to other food and cosmetic manufacturers at a steal. Cheaper than natural ingredients, as a result almost all conventional cosmetic manufacturers switched to using these by-products. Since then, these coal-tar dye by products (including FD & C colors and fragrances) have been the norm when it comes to perfume content. Until now. With the EWG (Environmental Working Group) estimating that 1 in 50 people will develop asthma as ...

#1 - Know Before What You Buy

April 1, 2008 – 8:35 am
I am absolutely fearless. Yes, I am a green-warrior queen forging into the wilderness of the future head first! It is, though of course, a head painted with absolutely trendy red lips, naturally flushed-blushed cheeks, and luscious lashes. And fearlessly I paint on my mask with eco-friendly, non-toxic war paint. So how do I know that my glamorous look has been created completely without toxins? It seems as though everyone these days is becoming an avid label reader, analyzing everything from baby food to hair gel. Well I too am an avid label reader, but I don't always know what I'm reading! I've decided (instead of focusing on knowing all that I don't/don't want in my chosen products) to arm myself with what I need to know first: the Top Ten Ingredients That I Want To Avoid. I've found a super one, by Aubrey Hampton (creator of Aubrey Organics) and I direct ...
